All School Social Purpose: This is an event that welcomes new and returning families to J.J. Hill We serve a light dinner and frozen treat. Timeframe: This event takes Sept. 18th. Volunteer needs: Promotion, setting up/cleaning up, serving food, greeting people.
Innisbrook Wrapping paper: Purpose: This is the largest fundraiser and it involves selling high quality wrapping paper, chocolates etc. Timeframe: The sale lasts 2 weeks September/October and distribution is in November. Volunteer Needs: Small and larger jobs. Promoting the event, calculating sales and unloading and distributing products.
Scholastic Book Fair/Red Balloon Book Fair Purpose: It is a great opportunity to encourage reading and get books into children's hands. Timeframe: The book fairs are held during school conferences in November (Scholastic) & March (Red Balloon). Volunteer needs: We need help with promotion, set up/break down of the fair, daily book sales. Creative ideas are always welcome.
Fun Fair: Purpose: This is a great community event that brings families together for games, food and fun. Timeframe: The event is held in late April, with planning for the event throughout the year. Volunteer needs: This event needs many volunteers but the sub committees make the tasks manageable. We need help with promotion, gathering prizes for raffles, set up/break down, food service, and game management. New and different ideas are welcomed.
Beautification Committee: Purpose: To create a welcoming and informative spaces for students and the community. Timeframe: Meetings ongoing throughout the year. Volunteer needs: Devise beautification needs for the school areas, help with design, implementation and installation of changes.
Library: Purpose: Assist the librarian in maintaining the library. Timeframe: Theseneeds are ongoing throughout the year; duties are needed Monday - Friday, training is available. Volunteer needs: Assisting with re-shelving books, book check out, book repair and cataloguing.
Art Adventure: Purpose: Presenting art masterpieces to classrooms. (Training provided through the Minneapolis Institute of Art.) Timeframe: Presentation dates varying by grade level, training sessions dates will be posted soon. Volunteer needs: Giving presentation(s) to a classroom(s),possibly organizing and assisting with an art project.
Art Displays: Purpose: Making our school halls beautiful with art work by our students. Timeframe: These needs are ongoing throughout the year. Volunteer needs: Assisting the art teacher with hanging art work around the school.
Playground/Garden improvement: Purpose: To help redesign and improve the garden /playground area at J.J. HIll. Timeframe: Committee meetings periodically during the year. Volunteer needs: Grant writing, designing improvements and implementing them for the garden and playground. Working with teachers and the community to make this happen.
Artist in Residence: Purpose: The residency will focus on using photography to tell a story. Timeframe: Residency dates TBD. Volunteer Needs: Assisting in the classroom while artist works with students. More details to come.
Product redemtion collection Purpose: Way to earn money for our school through everyday products we use. Time frame: Throughout the year. Volunteer needs: Collect milk lids, soup labels and box tops from school and send in to company for reimbursement.
School Promotion: Purpose: Promoting our school within the community. Timeframe: Throughout the year and at the School Choice Fair in January. Volunteer Needs: Welcoming families who are touring the school, talking with parents at District School Fair, and distributing school flyers to area preschools. BE A COMMITTEE MEMBER: PTO: Organize and support fundraising events and volunteer opportunities. (meeting 2nd Monday- 6pm) Site Council- Group advises the principal on school issues. (meeting 1st Thursday-5pm) HEART: (Hill Educational Art Resource Team) Organize and support supplemental art opportunities for students. (meeting 2nd Monday-4pm) Committees are parents and teachers and they meet once a month
