Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
What is J. J. Hill PTO?
The J. J. Hill Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is a collaborative organization open to all
J. J. Hill parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, and interested community members.   You are automatically a member of this organization if you are part of the circle of adults who want the best education and finest opportunities for all children at J. J. Hill Montessori Magnet School. 

How can you stay informed about the PTO

  1. Attend one or all of the meetings of the full PTO.
  2. Visit the PTO bulletin board outside the office where meeting dates are announced and minutes posted.
  3. Contact an officer or member of the PTO Steering Committee by calling or sending a note to the school office.

Active parent-teacher booster organizations contribute to a positive school climate and to student success.

What can YOU do to improve education and opportunities through the PTO?

  1. Respond to volunteer needs as communicated through flyers, phone calls, and emails.
  2. Help raise needed $$ by heading a fundraising project or being on a committee, attending fundraising events, or buying/ selling products.
  3. Attend quarterly meetings of the full PTO to stay informed, contribute ideas, and elect or be a leader of the PTO.
  4. Attend the open forum of the regular monthly Steering Committee meetings to bring items up for discussion.
  5. Donate a tax-deductible financial contribution. The J.J. Hill PTO is incorporated as a non-profit organization!

What is the Mission of the J. J. Hill Parent Teacher Organization?

We serve our school and students by:
  1. Encouraging broad parental involvement and volunteerism in the school.
  2. Informing families about the school and Montessori education.
  3. Bringing families together to celebrate our diversity and our unity.
  4. Rallying support for public education and Montessori outside the school.
  5. Fundraising for important needs in classrooms and for special programs.

J. J. Hill PTO Accomplishments

  1. Raises approximately $25,000 each year through Blue Sky Guides, Fun Fair, Innisbrook Wrapping Paper Sale, Book Fairs, Box Tops for Education, and other fundraisers for student and school needs.
  2. Allocates money for important needs such as student transportation for field trips, artist in residency program, school grounds/environment improvements, safety measures, media materials, classroom supplies, equipment, and more!
  3. Sponsors fun, community-building events such as the beginning of the year All-School Social.
  4. Supports parent education through monthly Montessori Connections meetings, The Silent Journey event.
  5. Keeps parents and teachers informed by creating a School Directory and monthly newsletters
  6. Collaborates with and supports other school organizations, such as the Site Council, HEART, and Hmong Parents group.
