I grew up in northwestern Minnesota and then was lucky enough to travel and work in various places around the world. I am intensely curious about all the subjects in the Montessori Elementary Curriculum: Biology, Geography, Geometry, History, Language, and Math, and I like to try to figure out how to spark students' interest in each one. I am admittedly a Montessori fundamentalist. The approach makes clear that the child's surest path to reaching their potential in social and academic arenas is through meaningful, chosen work, done individually or in collaboration with friends, with aspects of the concrete woven together with the abstract. I like to weave in a fair amount of linguistics, languages other than English, weird but logical math, and music of all sorts, as well.
I write a monthly letter of Montessori advocacy, Montessori Reflections, for the JJ Hill Montessori Magnet School community.
